UNUSUAL SOLDIERS BLOG
When I was in my early 20s I went through a crises of doubting my faith. I wasn’t doubting that I was a Christian – I was doubting that what I actually believed was real. Was God really out there? If he was then was my religion really the right one? I had grown up in a Christian home and been a part of church since I was a toddler. It has all that I had ever known. I transitioned to a Christian college and once again I was continuously surrounded by Christians. I began to wonder why my faith was the right faith? Was I just one of the lucky ones to hear about Jesus since and early age. I am amazed now looking back how much that season of life actually matured my faith. As I sought out answers to numerous questions, I ultimately came out of it stronger with a more solidified faith. Many questions still filter through my ADD mind at times which I will randomly tackle here on this blog under the ‘Destroying Doubt’ category.
Here are four proofs that I found in my early years that helped solidify my faith. They are oldies, but goodies. I call these four proofs my iPOD to make them easier to remember.
I– Intelligent Design (Proof of the Creator)
When I take time to stop and smell the roses I find it hard not to discover the effects of a designer far greater than myself. The examples of design are all around us and it doesn’t take long to see it if you look for it. You can find it in nature, in our own bodies, and beyond our galaxy. Here are a couple examples:
P– Prophecies of Christ (Proof that Jesus is Lord)
There are over 300 prophecies of Christ in the Bible that came to fruition through his birth (Micah 5:2), life (Isaiah 35:5-6;61:1), death (Daniel 9:26,27; Psalms 22:16), resurrection (Isaiah 53:10). According to Peter W. Stoner, a mathematician, the likelihood of only eight prophecies coming true would be 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. Which would be the same likelihood of filling Texas 2 feet deep with 1/2 dollars, painting one red, and asking a blindfolded man to find it.
If you are struggling with knowing which faith is right then I would recommend studying the life of Jesus. Its widely known from a variety of sources that he existed. His life was so significant that the world keeps track of our calendar years according to when he was born is just hard to overlook.
O– Oneness of the Bible (Proof of the Bible)
The Bible should be the most screwed up collage of literature on the planet. Think about it. It was written by over 40 authors, over 15 centuries, on 3 continents, and in 3 languages. The men behind the ink ranked from Kings to fisherman to inmates to prophets to tax collectors. Any spiritual book aiming to guide people with that many faucets would be doomed to failure. There would just be too many opinions and contradictions to make sense of it…unless it actually is divinely inspired. Thats what makes the Bible amazing. It is unified in its story, theology, and God’s redemptive mission. Its divine inspiration is evident.
D– Death of the Disciples (Proof of the Ressurection)
It’s widely known that eleven of the disciples died horrific deaths because they claimed that Jesus was not only the savior of the wold, but also that he had rose from the dead. To take it a step further they claimed that they had conversed with his resurrected body and even saw him ascend into the sky. That’s a story that sounds so fairytale-like that if I were a disciple I wouldn’t have mentioned it to anyone, unless I knew… that I knew…that I knew… that it was true. It would have been utterly ridiculous for them to choose to die torturous deaths for something that “out there” unless they themselves were fully convinced. The fact that they died for their claims is remarkable evidence that Jesus really was who he said he was.
