Two Unusual Soldiers staff members spent a month in the Himalayas during the month of August. Coming home just a day short of the horrific flooding that happened along the Tibet border. While the team was there, they were scouting and planning for future ministry, networking with local believers, and sharing the love of Jesus.
One of the main reasons for the trip was to scout out an area for a local school to be built alongside a local partner of ours. One of our partners in Nepal has a vision to start a school in an area that is very impoverished. The specific people group living in this area used to be known for living in caves. Due to the isolation of some of the villages in the mountainous regions, the children have to walk two hours one way to get to school, exposing them to danger from natural disasters and flooded rivers. Due to the difficulties in getting to and from school, some children do not even go to school. Our team went with our local partner to scout this region. While there, they were able to host a conference in two different villages. Through the conferences, they were able to share the love of Jesus, encourage and mobilize the local church, and be humbled by the dedication of local believers.
Upon arriving back in the capital city, the team preached at a local church and was able to visit a local orphanage. At the orphanage, they spent hours playing with and loving on the kids, as well as sharing and teaching them the 3-Circles gospel-sharing tool. The kids then practiced sharing the gospel through the 3-Circles with one another.
On top of scouting out the region to build a Christian school, hosting conferences, and visiting the orphanage, the team was able to network with many local believers and pastors, as well as disciple some brothers and sisters in the faith.
On the day the team flew back to the United States, the horrific disaster happened along the Tibet-Nepal border, as I am sure most of you heard. A glacier in Tibet collapsed into a lake, causing a massive flood into Nepal. The devastation has been heartbreaking, with thousands of people missing and many others killed as water and mud buried villages. Upon hearing this news, the team immediately went from processing their own trip to asking, “How can we help and support this country and the people we love and care about?”
Unusual Soldiers was able to raise funds to send to our local contacts there, who were and are directly providing relief aid and crisis support. Please pray for these people, as there is a long road to recovery and development ahead and thank you to all of you who helped fund this endeavor.
Our team is now praying through next steps. Join us as we pray and discern, alongside our local, on-the-ground partners, how we can make a lasting impact in Nepal through practical resources and development for the purpose of bringing the love of Jesus to these people, whether that be through a school, discipleship training, or disaster relief.
